The latest Angstrom Alliance offering sees a return to the female form after the recent diversion into things mechanical. This Illustrator CS5 all-vector venture into the world of Japanese modelling sees the beautiful and bountiful Nonami Takizawa captured in repose, courtesy of a coleer.com wallpapers, a multitude of meshes and fine hair detailing by way of the new Wacom tablet that arrived mid-project. The lace bra took an too long by half and is a texture that, for future reference, should be left well alone!

If you choose to favourite or collect this piece, please leave a comment to let me know what appeals about it so I can factor your views in when planning future works.

UPDATE: Have made a few adjustments in the bra area to soften the edges of the cups

Got to say that the veins and bra are my favorite part.

I've been trying to do the veins-on-breast part myself, but never really got behind it (in photoshop that is, for anime/toon girls).

Did you use a very low opacity setting along with some erasing?

Thanks, the bra was a real pain trying to draw that lace and keep it looking realistic. The veining, along with everything except the hair detailing, was created using Illustrator's gradient mesh tool. The only variations in opacity is where different meshes are blended at the edges when overlapping.

Thanks for the rapid reply. I see I have to study "meshing".

No probs, take a look at Frank Wyte's videos on YouTube to learn about the wonders of meshing.

that is amazing. it looks so photorealistic. do you just use gradient meshes to achieve that effect?

Thanks Sean, it's all vector, the vast majority is made up of gradient meshes with the hair details added with a pen and Wacom tablet.

Oh Wow Phil! This turned out very nice. You can even see the veins on the boobies, lol. The skin texture looks great and that bra is very detailed. One small thing though, where the right bra touches the hand, the edge seems too hard or rigid. You can possibly fix that by adding lighter colors to the last two rows of mesh, just a though. All and all, it look awesome.

Thanks Frank, I wanted something with texture to get my teeth into. The bra was a nightmare as the detailing wasn't pin sharp, so the lace couldn't be constructed of straight line work as it would have looked totally unreal. The micro-meshing took an age and drove me half batty, but I guess we are supposed to suffer for our art :D Will look at the bra, see if I can soften it out a bit.

I bet the bra was a nightmare, I've been trying to avoid materials like that so far. But i have been practicing on creating that type of stuff. I put hours every week into practice on different textures, most of the stuff gets thrown away. I like to practice on materials before I throw 60+ hours into a piece. But micro meshing is tedious, but the results can be unparalleled, if done right. Great job on this piece.

You're too kind. I admit I didn't fully realise what I was taking on when I started this one. Your tutorials take a lot of pain out of the learning curve, but there's another challenge lurking around every corner, and this lacework was a definite challenge. Still, if we don't push ourselves, what's the point?

My tutorials gives a blueprint for meshing, the person creating the mesh is the architect :D. They will also have to figure things out on things along the way and solve some problems on their own. The more problems they solve, the more confidence they'll have when working with the mesh tool. You'll always run into challenges when meshing. Sometimes they're fun to figure out and sometimes they're down right frustrating.

I like the architect analogy. Sounds like there's a touch of the Frank Lloyd Wrights lurking inside Frank Wyte.

You are to meshing what he was to the Guggenheim :D
